collaborative pieces hand carved in stone

Tracy Mahaffey and Adam Heller are professional stone carvers who have been working to create new and experimental pieces in stone. Their work is designed around the traditional craft of hand lettering and sculpture. They infuse this ancient craft with a modern sensibility and often a little philosophy and humor.

As Adam says, "We are excited about these pieces because it represents an artistic transformation for both of us. Through the mixing of thoughtful words and sculpture, we are carving pieces that fully represent where we are in life's journey, and what we've come to understand as personal truth."

For ten years Adam and Tracy have been independent artists focused in the craft of stone carving. Just over two years ago they came together to form the collaborative stone carving studio, Samaritan Carver, in Foster, R.I. All of their work is hand carved with a mallet and chisel.
